Bournemouth Cricket Club
We believe that Bournemouth Cricket Club in various guises has been in existence for well over a hundred years. We were founding members of Bournemouth Sports Club following the transfer from Kinson. We play our cricket at the highest level of cricket played in Dorset in the Southern Premier league.
Following the demise of Dean Park, we currently have an ambitious development plan to make Chapelgate “The Place to Play cricket” in Dorset. This includes improving the facilities we can offer and developing the standard of all our teams based on a thriving Youth section and strong links with Dorset County Cricket and Bournemouth University who both now play and train at the ground. To this end, we also now have the Dorset Captain as our First Eleven Captain, and no fewer than 8 players in our first team squad who have developed through our Youth set up or are members of the Dorset Under 19 team. We are now working closely with Dorset County to improve ability levels across the County. Funding of £20000 was obtained last year to install 2 new artificial pitches which enabled us to become a major hub for the new “Last Man Stands” initiative which has been so successful in the development of cricket in the Southern hemisphere.
Last year no fewer than 4 of our 7 Adult sides achieved promotion from their respective leagues and 2 teams narrowly missed out on promotion. This year we are looking for a clean sweep, however our main priority is to ensure promotion of our first Xi back to the top division of the Premier League.
In the medium term, we are looking to extend our pavilion and our accommodation on cricket 2 and our ability to cater for matches and improve our training facilities. All these will enhance the “cricket” product that the Sports Club has to offer.
